Citizen is an innovative and very useful game for civic education classes. As a teacher, I realised that my students, thanks to the game, felt more involved and interested in topics that they usually did not pay much attention to.
I am a second-year student and, as a rule, civics classes do not appeal to me. Thanks to Citizen, however, something changed. The idea of thinking about current issues that are very relevant in our society such as sustainability and inclusion through play stimulated me to get involved and actively participate in the lesson.
When my son came home after school he was very excited and I asked him to tell me what had happened.
He told me that during civics class the teacher had decided to let them play a board game called Citizen, which asked questions about sustainability and inclusion.
I honestly could not believe what I had heard: using a board game during the lesson, which, in my opinion, is not the right way of teaching children who spend most of their time playing on their mobile phones.
